Mazvikadei Dam Tips
Zimbabwe Pro-Angler Liam Macdonald shares some tips and thoughts on Mazvikadei Dam below.
Mazvikadei has a big population of good quality fish!
The key to success is patience and fishing to your strengths. The beauty of the dam is its versatility—you can catch fish anywhere from just 6 inches of water all the way down to 40-foot rock piles. Focus on targeting five fish in the 4- to 5-pound range, but always be prepared for that kicker fish, which often shows up when you least expect it.
Best of luck to all the anglers, and most importantly, enjoy the experience!
Thank You
A Big Thank-You to the Sponsors:
Yamaha Marine Centre, Keepnet, VitaCap and Fibrecraft for making this incredible tournament happen. Without your support and contributions, this would not be possible.
Thank you!
Day One
It sounds like it was an action-packed day on the water, with some notable changes in the conditions compared to yesterday! It's always exciting to see the dynamic shift in fishing, and it seems like the anglers are adjusting and keeping their spirits high, ready to try new strategies for Day 2.
With Zimbabwe leading by just a fraction of points over South Africa, it’s definitely going to be a close race. And the USA is still very much in the game, so it’s all to play for as the competition heats up.
Hopefully, the weather and fishing conditions will cooperate for the anglers to bring in some big catches tomorrow.
Day One biggest fish bagged by Slade Hawman with a very nice 4.73kg, with Team SA (see image)
Tight lines to all for Day 2! 🎣
Day Two
Day Two brought scorching temperatures and slower fishing conditions, but it didn’t dampen the competition. The largest catch of the tournament so far was landed in the early morning, by Christian De Nuysschen with a 4.76kg beauty, setting the stage for an exciting day ahead. South Africa surged ahead, taking the lead with a 4.5kg advantage over second-place Zimbabwe, who are hot on their heels. The USA is keeping the pressure on, close behind both teams and ready to make a move.
Tomorrow, South Africa and Zimbabwe will be sharing boats, introducing an intriguing dynamic that could shake up the leaderboard. Meanwhile, the USA will be out on their own, taking what they have learned over the last 2 days from the SA and Zimbabwe teams leaving no team to be underestimated as the final day looms.
It's all to play for – tight lines, and let’s see who finishes on top!
Day Three
Day Three brought even more intense heat, pushing the anglers to their limits, but it only fuelled their determination to give it their all until the very last minute. The USA had an outstanding performance today, with a catch count of 48, bringing their total to 126 fish and 101.32 points. This impressive effort earned them a well-deserved third place overall after three challenging days of extreme weather and unfamiliar waters.
The battle for first place between South Africa and Zimbabwe was a nail-biter, coming down to the final moments. South Africa, leading by 4.5kg after day two, faced stiff competition from Zimbabwe, who scored higher on days one and three. However, South Africa's consistent team performance over the three days ultimately secured them the victory, claiming the title of the first-ever Youth Bass Tri-Nations of 2024 with 164 catch count tallying up to 148.41 points. Zimbabwe close behind with 157 catch count totalling to 145.34 points. This marks a historic win for the South African Youth Team, their first triumph over Zimbabwe Youth Bass Team since 2019.
It’s been an incredible week of fishing, with remarkable efforts from all the anglers. A special thank you to the USA and South Africa teams for traveling such great distances and bringing camaraderie to the inaugural Youth Bass Tri-Nations tournament. Safe travels to all, and congratulations once again to every angler for their hard work and sportsmanship. Well done!
